Five-Year Targets • Online and blended courses will be part of the high school education planning guide • Every student will take at least one online experience as part of their high school experience • Students will be trained to be successful in online and blended courses • Students will have access to college and post-secondary courses and job-related training as part of their 4-year high school plan
Five-Year Targets, cont. • Parents will be familiar with accessing curriculum and student information • Teachers will be competent in developing and delivering online instruction • Technology will be an integral part of in-class instruction and differentiation • Elementary, middle and high school students will have access to remediation and support through online resources as part of their regular education program • Students’ course selection and program development will reflect coursework that is relevant, individualized, and rigorous for each student
Timeline • 2011-2012 • Online period in select teachers’ schedules at the high school • SVA re-organized to be a curricular strand of Solanco programming/ schedule • Professional development for cadre of interested and capable teachers • Develop and teach online and blended courses • 2012-2013 • Pilot out-of-school online courses and pilot blended courses • College partnership (post-secondary) for course and/or work skills training • Identify 9th and 10th grade courses to prepare students to succeed in online and blended course. These will be courses that will help students work collaboratively, develop time management skills and get accustomed to online/in-class blended courses.
Timeline, cont. • 2013-2014 • Blended/online course in every core content area • Cadre of juniors/seniors on an “alternative” schedule regarding the time in-seat • 2014-2015 • Students choose online/blended courses as part of course selection process • 2015-2016 • Students will have different schedules to accommodate online/blended as well as brick-and-mortar courses • 4-year graduation will include a wide range of experiences, including multiple college or post-secondary courses and work skills training • At least 20% of upper classmen will be out of building at any time due to change in requirements of “seat-time” for courses

Hybrid Model • Background • PA Hybrid Learning Initiative • On-site visit at Lebanon High School • Developing Solanco’s Plan • Identify key teachers, subjects, and grades • Identify areas of study to implement hybrid learning • Focus on professional development on classroom management and technology resources to support the initiative
Focus Areas for Next Five Years • How can technology be used to improve instruction and eliminate constrictions of time and location for scheduling? • Alteration to present programs • Expand Moodle use to upper elementary students • Expand Bring Your Own Device • Explore options for using online exploratory learning opportunities during RtII core and tier time at elementary level

Focus Areas for Next Five Years • How can technology be used to improve instruction and eliminate constrictions of time and location for scheduling? • New ideas • Expose students and parents to technology resources (Keystone remediation, SAT Prep, language exposure, etc). • Use technology to further differentiate instruction and individualize learning (explore hybrid, flipped, and open classes) • Explore how teacher work day and student learning day can be more open-ended and flexible • Develop adult education opportunities
