  3. PAPA definitions • Purpose: The reason an author wrote a text. Is it to persuade? To inform? To entertain? To explain something? • Argument: What the author is trying to convince the reader of, or to prove. • Persona: The personality an author has taken on to convince the reader of the argument • Audience: The intended reader of the text. Is the author assuming that the reader has some prior knowledge in the topic?
