Where was headquarters before today’s building? • The first offices, 1929-1982, were in the homes of the TSO secretaries and treasurers. • Austin: Dr. Annie Webb Blanton, Ray King, BernetaMinkwitz, Fannie Lu Yeager • FortWorth: Dr. Eula Lee Carter, Phyllis Ellis, Gladys Parker, Luella Merrett, Virginia Grove • Snyder: Virginia Grove Dr. Blanton Miss King Dr. Carter

TSO Presidents During Dallas HQ’s Birth Carolyn Adkins, 2003-2005 At the 2004 TSO Convention in Austin, members discussed finding a new site for state headquarters. Afterward, President Carolyn Adkins appointed the Special State Headquarters Committee to find a site.
Who were the committee members? What did they do? • Special State Headquarters Committee: Sandy Whitney (chair), Cydney Braswell, Charlene Davis, Ruth Hull, Joyce Packard, Dr. Mary Ann Waldon. Ex officio: Carolyn Adkins. • On November 6, 2004, the committee met in Dallas; they decided to use a realtor to look at Dallas sites. • They visited four sites: (1) an office in a multi-story office building, (2) a house zoned commercial, (3) a model office condominium in an office park, and (4) the site of a future office park on Campbell Road.
What did the committee do next? At the 2005 TSO Convention in Dallas, Sandy Whitney reported on the committee’s three Dallas proposals: (1) Leased office space, (2) Residential property, (3) Office park condominium on Campbell Road.
How did the vote turn out? Why? The 2005 TSO convention voted to purchase an office park condominium on Campbell Road. Why? (1) New structure with modifiable floor plan. (2) Right size for committee meetings. (3) Secure, well-established location. (4) TSO’s professional status reflected. (5) Affordable price, and increasing value.
What was the projected cost? First $$$ in? • The convention established a Headquarters Building Fund. • Goal? To raise $300,000 to purchase and furnish the new Headquarters. In just 30 minutes after the vote, convention attendees pledged over $25,000 in Building Bucks to fund the new Headquarters!
How was Headquarters funded? • Fact #1: The TSO Scholarship Fund loaned $300,000 to purchase and furnish the new Headquarters. • Fact #2: As chapters and individuals gave to the Headquarters Building Fund, TSO repaid the borrowed funds. • Fact #3:The remaining debt is part of TSO’s annual budget. According to an agreement, TSO pays the ASTEF Scholarship Fund $5,000 a year. On June 30, 2019, the remaining balance was $50,700.
TSO Presidents During New HQ’s Birth Catherine Davis, 2005-2007 HOW did members contribute to the Headquarters Building Fund? (1) “Building Bucks” pledge forms, (2) “Raise the Roof” campaign, (3) “Hundreds for Headquarters” campaign (asking chapters to raise $100 for each of five years).

On March 10, 2006, fulfilling a dream, TSO took a major step forward as a professional organization when members signed the papers to purchase a condominium office suite at 6220 Campbell Road in Dallas.
