Cool Season Grasses. Cool season grasses are generally NOT adapted to Louisiana . Cool season species green up in the fall, grow best in fall and spring, and go dormant or die with the first sign of heat in the late spring-early summer. They are mostly used as temporary winter cover (overseed).

Cool Season Grasses • Cool season grasses are generally NOT adapted to Louisiana . • Cool season species green up in the fall, grow best in fall and spring, and go dormant or die with the first sign of heat in the late spring-early summer. • They are mostly used as temporary winter cover (overseed). • Some heat tolerant cultivars of Texas Bluegrass and Turf Tall Fescue may grow in north Louisiana with proper culture.

  2. Cool Season Turfgrasses • Bluegrasses • Poa : pratensis, trivialis, annua . • Bentgrasses • Agrostis : palustris, tenuis . • Fescues • Festuca : rubra, arundinacea . • Ryegrasses • Lolium : perenne, multiflorum .
