Alternate Assessment Requirements Will Measure Kentucky’s Content Standards • Reading, mathematics and writing will be linked to the new Kentucky Core Academic Standards (KCAS). • Science and social studies standards remain Core Content for Assessment 4.1 for 2011-2012. Alignment of Standards • The Alternate Assessment aligns with grade level content standards assessed in grades 3 - 8 as well as high school. • Kentucky is required by federal law to assess all students using these content standards; however the Alternate Assessment addresses the standards in a format that is modified based on the severity of students’ needs. Attainment Tasks Format • Attainment Tasks have been administered in social studies and writing for the last 4 years. • Only new change will consist of dimension A students will have 4 choices (pictures) and dimension B will have 3. Previous assessment consisted of 3 for dimension A and 2 for B. KDE: OAA: DSR: 8/1/2011

Testing Windows • Multiple test windows connect instruction to more immediate assessment and allow teachers to manage administration more efficiently. • In the first year, test windows are scheduled for February and May 2012. In following years, a third window is anticipated for October. KDE: OAA: DSR: 8/1/2011

Alternate Assessment: October Field Test • Field test of new items is necessary • 5 items per content area • Notification sent to DACs • Random teacher selection • Scores will not be part of accountability • Item feedback will be required • Information/feedback will be shipped to KDE KDE: OAA: DSR: 8/1/2011

  16. Instructional Trainings • First trainings will focus on “Instruction”. • These trainings will be introduced by the Office of Next - Generation Learners and Special Education Cooperatives in mid-August. KDE: OAA: DSR: 8/1/2011

  17. Assessment Trainings • All trainings will be web-based trainings; they will follow the same format as last year. • A certification quiz will be required for each training upon completion of the training. KDE: OAA: DSR: 8/1/2011
