Plan strategy • Make adjustments: • Teaching style • Student workspace or seating • Make a behaviour plan agreement with the student – plan to succeed. • Modify the curriculum • Find a colleague / friend to debrief regularly with. • Share your concerns with team members / supervising executive. • Have a backup. • ILP. • BFW !
Review • Has your plan worked? • Document progress. • Praise / reward student for successes. • Modify / Change tactics when needed.
No Progress? Consult & involve your supervising executive teacher. School Counsellor support. Refer to Learning Support Team. Parent support Plan new strategies with support network.
Obvious Mistakes to Avoid • * Punishing the class for the errors of one student. • * Making disapproving comments. • * Comparing a student’s acting out behaviour with other student behaviours. • * Yelling at students. • * Engaging in verbal battles. • * Making unrealistic threats. • *Getting too emotionally involved * Using force. • Ridiculing. • Forcing students to admit lies and errors. • Demanding confessions. • Confronting students over issues. • Asking students why they act out. • Unprepared for lesson.
