Creating an Environment Conducive to Improving Student Literacy
Learning Outcomes: By the end of the session, we shall • Know and understand why it is urgent to create a Culture of Literacy in our school based upon data • Have reflected upon current/best practices for improving literacy in the content areas • Have developed a plan of action to support the school’s effort in creating a culture of literacy.

Content Specific Literacy Conversations • Instructions: Each dept or grade level in the school will reflect, brainstorm, think critically, and communicate specific strategies, ideas/suggestions for improving literacy (reading, writing, speaking, listening, thinking, and creating) in your specific department or grade.

Content Specific Literacy Conversations • Instructions continued: • Complete the Literacy Implementation Plan Form provided by Teacher Leaders • Submit form to TL to be incorporated into your School’s Literacy Implementation Plan. (Only one form should be submitted per department/grade)
Content Specific Literacy Conversations Instructions continued: • Once questions are answered, please brainstorm and create a product summarizing your content area conversations to share in a gallery walk. This product can be created with chart paper OR a digital tool, but it needs to be such that all can view it during the gallery walk. • (Possible materials needed – Chart paper, markers, tape, sticky notes OR digital 2.0 tool)
