An Adjective… • An adjective is a word that modifies, or describes, a noun or a pronoun. • An adjective describes a person, place, thing, or idea. • It gives more info about the noun or pronoun. • A predicate adjective follows a linking verb and modifies the subject of the sentence.
Find the adjective or adjectives… • Lady Gaga is a recording artist. • She went to a Catholic school. • Her real name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta. • She has had several major hits in her short career.
Articles • A, an, and the are the three main articles. • A and an are called indefinite articles because they refer to one of a general group of people, places, things, or ideas. • The is called a definite article because it identifies specific people, places, things, or ideas.
Find the Article • The first exhibit included drums from that band. • One of my classmates was wearing a Green Day bracelet. • That museum includes an exhibit from Aerosmith. • Can we go see the band when they visit Champaign?
Proper Adjectives • Proper adjectives are formed from proper nouns. • A proper adjective ALWAYS begins with a capital letter.

Demonstrative Adjectives • Demonstrative adjectives point out something and describe nouns by answering the questions which one or which ones. • This/that/these/those plus a noun.
Which one is right? • The girl saw (that/those) things in a new way. • (This, this here) painting shows her imaginative style. • (This/that) painting is of an acrobat. • (This/These) are the artist’s early works.

Comparatives, Superlatives, and Positive Adjectives • A comparative adverb compares two actions. • A superlative adverb compares more than two actions. • A positive adjective doesn’t compare anything at all.
