Live@edu Conversion Project February 17, 2011 IT Forum
Terminology • Mail • Royalmail – current incoming mail server • Express mail/Portal mail – accessed through my.scranton • Typical quota is 200MB • Thunderbird – full desktop client with advanced features and local storage • Local storage is unlimited • Calendar • Royalcal – current calendar server • Accessible through the Employee tab in the portal • CorpTime – full desktop client • Oracle Calendar – updated version of CorpTime • Live@edu – new environment; includes email, calendar, contacts & more • Microsoft Outlook 2010 – replaces Thunderbird and CorpTime/Oracle Calendar on your desktop • Microsoft Outlook Web App (OWA) – accessible from any web browser and through the my.scranton portal • No local storage • 10GB quota
Concerns about migrating • How will my mail get from the current environment to the new environment? • How will my contacts/address books get from the current environment to the new environment? • What will happen to calendar entries in CorpTime/Oracle Calendar? • What will mail/calendar look like in Live@edu? • How will I learn to use Outlook and OWA?
Migrating mail and contacts • Mail living on royalmail.scranton.edu / express mail • Local mail in Thunderbird • Lives on individual computers • Varies in size • Personal address books in express mail • Personal address books in Thunderbird • Lives on individual computers • Multiple address books may exist
