District Schools • Clarion Elementary 700 Students • Clarion Middle School 700 Students • Clarion High School 900 Students Special emphasis for this library budget: Meeting the National Library Standard of Independent Learning Standard 6-The student who is an independent learner is information literate and strives for excellence in information seeking and knowledge generation.

  4. Teaching to the Standards The state academic standards are benchmark measures that define what students should know and be able to do at specified grade levels beginning in grade 3. The standards are promulgated as state regulations. As such they must be used as the basis for curriculum and instruction in Pennsylvania’s public schools.   5. To achieve this goal… Budgeting requested for: 25 magazine subscriptions, 4 newspaper subscriptions for per school. Titles range from Time, to Sports Illustrated for Kids. These will help with assignments, but more importantly, it’s important to help motivate students to READ!

Access PA • A statewide library union catalog combining the holdings of more than 2,900 school, public, academic and special libraries in Pennsylvania. • Over 61 million holdings for over thirteen million unique records. • With Access PA, eligible to participate in the Access Pennsylvania Power, a library program which provides free access, under a statewide license, to online graphical and full-text periodical and reference databases! • We receive $20,000.00 worth of information for $180.00!

Classroom JeopardyComputer Software • To involve students in learning and assessment • To motivate students to ask good questions • To encourage students to find answers • To enjoy learning as a class Classroom Jeopardy is coordinated to meet National Educational Standards for grade levels 3-8. Teachers will also have blank game cartridges to make games that match individual lessons. These can be saved and used again.

Professional Development • New professional library titles, over 50 titles that can be shared between our schools. • Examples: • Lesson Plans for Creating Media-Rich Classrooms • Teaching Outside the Box: Grabbing Your Studentsby the Brains • Activities for the Differentiated Classroom • So you Want to Become a NB Certified Teacher? • Positive Classroom Management

  10. Books-Special Focus • Middle School & High School Book Clubs • Faculty has already volunteered to work with the students! • Emphasis on developing the social studies collection in the Elementary School • We are encouraging the love of reading!
