Before looking to the future, a few words on the present • Annual questionnaires • Every 5 years, ESWG meeting of all OECD countries in Paris to discuss needed changes in the questionnaires. Meeting in 2011. • Parallel meeting in Eurostat since our questionnaires are joint questionnaires • Participation of key organisations • After agreement by all parties, technical implementation of the changes • (MOS) Monthly Oil Statistics • Changes to the annual oil and gas questionnaires lead to changes to monthly questionnaires. • After agreement by all parties, technical implementation of the changes
Examples of agreed changes Update the net calorific value ranges for coal Move oil shale and oil sands out of lignite Change “oxygen steel furnace gas” to “other recovered gases” Separate peat briquettes from BKB Gas/diesel oil detail Biofuels reporting Separation of bio and non-bio fractions of blended fuels Add a line for blast furnace gas transformation Modify the liquid biofuels categories Modify reporting of biogases in main tables Add two tables for liquid biofuels trade

One word on the Key World Energy Statistics • The Key World Energy Statistics is also available as an iPhone application. • In 2012 the app became much more user-friendly and interactive than the previous versions • A special version is also available for iPad IEA Stats • Now working on an Android version
The Statistics Page on the IEA Web Site The “old” statistics page • Old fashioned; over 10 years old. • Difficult getting the information needed • Not user-friendly • One year of data, although the most recent one • Not dynamic • Decision taken to develop a more complete and user-friendly page

A few words to conclude • The IEA is more than ever committed to strengthening the quality of OECD statistics, extending coverage and improving dissemination • Energy Statistics will be one of the key topics on agenda of the next IEA Ministerial meeting in November 2013 • The IEA is also more than ever committed to working with countries and organisations, and improving global data transparency • The energy world is changing dramatically and rapidly, so the need for more international cooperation for building a cleaner and more secure energy future Thank you
