  1. Practicals -Transformer Module 1

  2. Remember the formula • TR= Np/Ns =Vp / Vs= Is/ Ip

  3. Lab Activity 1- To measure the primary and secondary voltage of the transformer • Connect the primary in parallel as shown in the picture

  4. Circuit Diagram • Sketch the circuit for the parallel connection. It would be as follows:

  5. Now measure the primary voltage using the multimeter on . AC 200V range. Primary Voltage=______V AC

  6. Next measure the secondary voltage using the multimeter on AC (200V range). Secondary Voltage Vs1=______V AC Secondary Voltage Vs2=______V ACAre both equal? Why?

  7. Lab Activity 3- To calculate the transformer power loss • Connect the primary in parallel and secondary in series as shown in the picture. Also connect the resistor load module with the 2 resistors in series (220 +220 = 440 Ω). Measure the primary and secondary voltage • Measure the primary current and secondary current

  8. Measuring Primary Current

  9. Measuring Secondary Current

  10. Measure the following: • Transformer primary voltage = ____VAC • Transformer primary current = ____mA= ____ A • Transformer primary power = VpxIp = ____W • Transformer secondary voltage= __VAC • Transformer secondary current = ___mA=___ A • Transformer secondary power = VsxIs ____W

  11. Calculate the following: • Transformer Efficiency= ____ % • Transformer input-output voltage ratio = Vp/Vs = ____ • Transformer input-output current ratio = Is/Ip = ____ What do you observe about the relation between voltage, current and Turns ratio?
