CPS Community Schools Initiative (CSI) • Theory of ActionStudent achievement will improve by engaging students, families, and communities in academic, enrichment, and health programs that are aligned with the school curriculum during out-of-school time. • CPS Community Schools Initiative (CSI) • Launched in 2002 as a public/private partnership between CPS and philanthropic and corporate leaders. • Designed to improve individual student, whole school and community outcomes through a collaborative effort between schools, families and community partners. • Largest CS initiative in the nation: 154 participating elementary and high schools (2009-10), including neighborhood, charter and performance schools; serving over 30,000 students and nearly 10,000 of family members. • Serves the “whole child” by addressing barriers to learning and development. • Allows for service providers and stakeholders to work collaboratively while focusing on what they do best—teachers can teach, principals can manage, and family services can help parents better support their children.
