  2. Assessing Domestic Church / Family • This term, the formally assessed theme is the CHURCH THEME Domestic Church / Family • We will be formally assessing AT1 – LEARNING ABOUT RELIGION Strand (i). The children may be informally assessed against the other strands. • Each year group will assess from an activity taken from a Learning Focus in Reveal. • The activities are listed over the next few slides. • When planning please leave this task out. • Please teach all of ‘Explore’, ‘Reveal’ (but don’t use the task identified for the formal assessment) then, after ‘Remember’, please formally assess using the activities indicated. • This enables the children to have had opportunity to work through the topic in full to inform their assessment.

  4. Formal Assessment Autumn 2013Domestic Church – Family Beliefs, Teachings and Sources Early Years:Based on Focus Week 1, page 55, Activity 3. Share God’s Story 1 pages 22/23 and related questions with the class. Provide the children with a photograph of themselves or provide opportunities for the children to paint or draw themselves. Remind children of the Scripture passage and read it to them. • Using their picture ask children – What does God say about you? Scribe the words for the children if necessary and add to the picture. ‘God says……………………………………’ ( Level 1) Can Irecognise some religious stories?( the words from Isaiah)

  5. Formal Assessment Autumn 2013Domestic Church – Family Beliefs, Teachings and Sources Year 1:Based on Learning Focus 6, page 58 Activity 1 & 2. Read the account of Jesus growing up (page 58) and discuss the related questions. • Pupils role play some aspects of Jesus ‘early life (Towards Level 1) • Make a zig-zag book about Jesus’ early life, labeling some aspects of the account. (Level 1) • Retell through their own words and pictures the account of Jesus growing up in a family who loved and cared for him. (Level 2)

  7. Year 2: Based on Learning Focus 1, page 54, Activity 1. • Pupils retell the story of creation by writing simple sentences to show how God created the earth and everything in it. (You may wish to give the pupils the phrase ‘And God saw that it was very good’ to follow each sentence.) (Level 2) • Pupils create a collage, painting or drawing to recognise and remember some of what God did in the story of Creation. (Level 1) • Pupils will retell the creation story as above, however, they will begin to make links to this story and what Christians believe about creation. – See background notes - (Level 3)

  8. Year 2: At Level 1, the children can recognisesome of the events from the creation story. The children at Level 2should retell the creation story. To achieve Level 3, the pupil needs to makelinks between this story and the Christian belief relating to the creation of the world. Can I recognise some of the events from the creation story?   9. Year 3: Adapt Learning Focus 6, page 59, Activity 2, based on Colossians 3:12-17. Read God’s Story 3 (p.147), • Pupils retell / writethe passage as if they were St. Paul writing a letter to their class today. (Level 2) • Pupils retell /rewrite the passage as if they were St. Paul writing a letter to their class today, making links between the advice given and Christian beliefs e.g. loving one another, forgiving one another (with reference to the scripture they are familiar with.) – See background notes (Level 3)

Year 4: Based on Learning Focus 2, page 54, Activity 2. • Pupils should write a short piece for the parish newsletter about the story of Abraham, making links between this and the belief in God’s promise to his people, his trust in God and doing God’s will. (Level 3) • Pupils retell the story of Abraham. (Level 2)

  13. Year 5: Based on Learning Focus 4, page 57, Activity 1. • Pupil can retellthe story of a significant person e.g. Maximillian Kolbe. (Level 2) • Pupils make links between the life of a significant person e.g. Maximillian Kolbe and to what that person believed. (Level 3) • Pupils write about the life of a significant person e.g. Maximillian Kolbe,describing and showing understandingof religious sources, beliefs, ideas, feelings and experiences and how these affect what that person believes and how they lived (Level 4)

(Level 4) The children, at Level 2, should be able toretell the story of a significant person. To achieve Level 4, the child would have to describe and show understandingof religious sources, beliefs, ideas, feelings and experiences and how these affect what a person believes and how they lived.

  15. Year 6:Adapt Learning Focus 4, Activity 3 (page 57). Using Rembrandt’s painting, ‘The Prodigal Son’ ….. • Pupils retell the story of the Prodigal Son. (Level 2). • Pupils write a passage making links between the story of the Prodigal Son and what Christians believe. (See background notes.) (Level 3) • Pupils write a commentary which describes and illustrates the links between the painting, Luke’s gospel, Christian belief and other sources (Sacrament of Reconciliation, related hymns linking to forgiveness) and how these affect our own thoughts and feelings about the picture and what we believe. (Level 4)

  16. Year 6: Can I retell the story of the Prodigal Son? (Level 2) Can I make linksbetween the Prodigal Son and what Christians believe? (Level 3) Can I describe and show an understanding of the scripture passage, the beliefs, ideas and feelings of Christians and make links between them? (Level 4) At Level 2 the children can retell the story of the Prodigal Son?. At Level 3, the children will be able to make linksbetween the Prodigal Son and what Christians believe. At Level 4, the children will describe and show an understanding of the scripture passage, the beliefs, ideas and feelings of Christians and make links between them. It would highly unlikely that a child could access Level 5 in this strand as it demands an understanding and explanation of the historical development of the Catholic belief in forgiveness.
