6XX magnetic measurements strategy for 2006. • Measurements outside SM18: • At room temperature with QIMM (ACCEL, TESLA,CERN) • At cold in Block 4 with long rotating coil for multipoles (MQMC, MQM,MQY). Correlation:Warm Cold Block 4 • Measurements in SM18 • MQY not measured in block 4 (Gdl for all) +few MQY already measured in block 4 (re-scale the abs.value of TF and checks of bn) • Gdl measurements on MQML to refine the w/c. • Relative variation with current for injection value and statistics for the spread, both measured in Block 4. • Magnets selected following the priority optics (input from AB/BP). Correlation:Warm Cold SM18+ cold data for MQY.
Magnetic measurements executed in the SM18. 18 magnetically measured / 46 magnets cold tested (March 2006). • Critical SSS (optic point of view) did not came first (but we had to validate the prod. Lines). • Gdl measurements in priority on MQML (not measured in block 4) • Magnetic measurements coupled with geometry (shape) and axis measurements.
Overview of limitations for S4 magnetic measurement in SM18 Mechanics • Magnet preparation outside bench: anti-cryostat, MRB alignment… (1 day) • Alignment in the test bench (1/2 day). • Installation and removal of rotating coils, chaconsa : only by mechanics, not given to ICS. Operations done by MTM mechanics team, working in normal hours. Limitation in the devices for magnetic measurements. • Scanner : -Can be installed on all types, provides harmonics, GdL, axis (no FD) - But very time-consuming (~1 week/campaign) • Rotating coils : - Cannot be installed on long cold mass types (Q6 IR 2,3,7,8 + Q4 IR2,8 + Q5 2/8) - Total coil length = 4750 m (shorter than MQML) - 2 test benches suitable for rotating coil measurements (TBB1, TBD1). • SSW : - Reference value for Gdl at nominal and for magnetic axis measurements. - Gdl: difficult at arc & IR quad injection. Measurements /analysis. • Preparation (config, settings..) : not fully automatised done by experts. • Measurements : - SSW done by OP team but delicate. Frequent interventions of experts. - Scanner and rotating coils : OP not trained, done by experts. • Checks and data reduction : delicate, only done by experts.
Proposal for Magnetic measurements (6XX). • Changes with respect to the proposal of January 2005 : • SSS635 (Q5R4) and SSS636 (Q6R4) in place of SSS646 (Q5L5) and SSS669 (Q6L2). • SSS660 : Gdl+ multipoles, SSS648 (only Gdl).
Proposal for Magnetic measurements (5XX). Strategy : Use the warm to cold correlation of the arc SSS for MQ’s. Done • Transfer function (MQ, MQTL): 5 special SSS selected. • Multipoles of MQTL measured at cold in block 4. But no cold mass measurements performed at warm…..
