Who We Are: Metro Area Sheet Metal Joint Apprentice & Training Committee (Metro JATC) • We are Sheet Metal Workers • Sheet Metal Workers are Construction Workers • We are the Building Trades!
Our Project • Upgrade the Green Construction skills, technology and Sustainable Project awareness of our members and employers • $40,000 MSESP grant awarded for this • Specifically… • Education on how to build and/or retrofit the Green Built Environment • Education on LEED Certified Standards
Our Project • What is LEED? Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design • Rating Systems Created by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) • The mission of the USGBC is to transform buildings and communities • USGBC Accreditations: LEED Green Associate (LEED GA), LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP) • For our project, it’s all about ENERGY and INDOOR ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY!
Project Outcomes • Cutting edge trained workforce • Healthier buildings • Happier and healthier building occupants • Building occupants much more productive • Buildings much more energy efficient
Project Outcomes - Specifics • 300 plus people trained • Includes people enrolled in community-based work training programs such as: Merrick Community Services and Goodwill-Easter Seals • Includes government employees from: City of Saint Paul, Ramsey County, Minneapolis School Board • 18 have achieved LEED GA or LEED AP status
Project Outcomes - Specifics • Employers are calling for workers with this training, and we can supply that trained workforce to them • 40-plus unemployed sheet metal workers went back to work as a direct result of this training • Aside from the Metro Area, workers from Rochester, St Cloud and Duluth were trained • Good, sustainable CAREERS!
