Innovative care at critical times in the lives of our patients and families. These priorities lead in the discoveries and innovations that they make, the teaching and learning opportunities that they offer and the exceptional care that they provide.

  4. next Cancer Specialized, comprehensive, team approach to care. • Sunnybrook’s Odette Cancer Centre is a leading cancer centre in North America, with more than 10,000 new patients benefitting from care each year. • Renowned for research in the prevention, early detection, development, and delivery of advanced treatments for breast, colorectal and prostate cancers.

  5. next Heart and Stroke Sunnybrook’s Schulich Heart Centre’s team of expert cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, vascular surgeons, cardiac anesthetists, nurses and allied health staff work together to develop minimally invasive ways to treat the heart and damaged blood vessels. Innovations include: 1 2 Transformational research and care in image-guided therapies from an expert heart team. First centre in Toronto treating mitral regurgitation, one of the most common heart valve diseases in Canada, with a MitraClip. Leaders in Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation, or TAVI, addressing the narrowing of the aortic valve. The procedure reduces pain and postoperative pain medication, means a shorter stay in the hospital and faster recovery for patients.

  6. next High Risk Maternal and Newborn Leadership in clinical care, education and research in the management of pregnancies and infants at increased risk. • Specializing in high risk births, multiple births and neonatal intensive care, Sunnybrook offers care for one of every five babies born in Ontario who weigh less than three pounds. • More emergency maternal transfers than any other hospital in Ontario. • Home to the Centre for Multiple Pregnancies with a highly trained team of internationally renowned experts.

  7. next Trauma and Burns A recognized leader in trauma, emergency and critical care, Sunnybrook’s expertise is in high demand. • Home to Canada’s first and largest regional trauma centre, providing care for the most seriously injured patients in the province. • Over 80 hospitals refer patients to Sunnybrook to receive care for major burns and traumatic injuries. • The Ross Tilley Burn Centre cares for the majority of the burn injury patients in the province and features a ‘tele-burn’ consult service.
