The Concept: What is Aitio? Interactive concept for live events YLE Areena is the biggest net-tv channel in Finland. If offers on demand content as well as live broadcasting on web. In YLE we have developed a concept to support live web broadcasting: this concept is called "Aitio" (Box seat in English, Boîte in French). Connected to social media Aitio creates a unique user experience. It offers live videostream with chat, facebook and twitter commenting and related content in the same browser window. User can watch the show with other users and chat together. Also YLE's professionals and journalists can participate in the discussion. Countless opportunities for us Aitio platform is flexible and can be used in various ways and in many of our genres: sports, entertainment & music shows, talk shows, current affairs, education etc. For instance users can watch the ice hockey game, follow the statistics and support their team - together. In talk shows they can comment and ask questions - real time. Opportunities are countless and our users love the concept.
The implementation: Aitio Cases Aitio is a concept which is online whenever our live event is on. It is not online when we don't have any live streams ongoing. We don't have any url where the concept is online without live feed. Here we introduce some of the recent cases. We use Aitio-concept case by case whenever it adds value to a live event on web. It is easy and fast to set up. Opportunities are countless and our users love the concept.

It was sold out and all ticket sales went to trusted organisations. But we also wanted to share the concert live with everyone on web and gave people chance to experience the show and donate on web. Interactive Improvisation show YleX (Yle’s radio channel for young audiences) put together a series were two teams of young actors compete on improvisation tasks. This weekly show was live on radio and live on web - with the image from studio. Users decided what teams act on. Moderator asked on web for example “What should be the theme of this scene?” and users on chat started to write their suggestions. Together they made the show surprising and funny. Chat were users gave their input to actors Live video from studio
The Value: Aitio enriches the content Purpose of the concept The purpose on the concept is to enrich the experience of live broadcasting on web. To offer our users something extra - something that traditional broadcasting on tv or radio can not offer. It makes the watching experience social. And serves the net native public. For YLE it offers an opportunity to be close to our customers. We can follow their discussions and opinions and be part of it. It is all about to serve our users and audiences better . Who are the users? Depending on content in question, user-base varies. They are mostly web native users, who want to use their social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter) on commenting and discussion and whose computer/tablet has replaced the TV as their main device.
