State Recommended Graduation Requirements English - 4 Mathematics - 4 Science - 4 Social Studies – 3.5 Economics - .5 Health - .5 Physical Education – 1.0 Fine Arts - 1 Speech - .5 Technology - 1 Other Languages-2 Electives- 3.5 Total Credits-26 State Credits State Recommended Plan requires taking Levels I and II in the same language other than English courses.

10. Fine Arts • Art • Dance • Band • Choir • Theatre

11. Physical Education 1 Credit Required for Graduation (Class of 2014 & Beyond) (Any 2 one semester PE Courses) The following substitutes for PE in the FALL Only • Marching Band • Drill Team • Cheerleading Athletics may substitute for PE Only Dance I may earn PE credits. Dance II-IV will count as Fine Arts.

13. Athletics • High School athletics are very competitive. • Students who are not currently playing a sport either in middle school or on a select or club team need to contact the appropriate coach prior to registering for that sport. Contact information is on the “Athletics and Fine Arts Options” link on the counseling website.

14. Speech • Professional Communications will satisfy the speech requirement for graduation.

15. Technology Credit • One full Credit Required for Graduation (please see pg. 2 in the Program of Studies for a list of courses) • Several new courses are also being offered

16. Other Languages • Levels I and II of the same language (State Recommended) • Levels I, II, and III of the same language (DAP) In language other than English Latin A S L Spanish French

17. Should I take Pre AP classes? • Classes average 1.0 to 1.5 hours of homework per class meeting • Consider outside activities • Are you an independent worker? • Do you enjoy more complex projects and instruction? • Consider taking a Pre AP class in your area of strength

18. Why Take AP Classes? • You will be better prepared academically. • In college you should perform significantly better than students who have not taken challenging courses. • You are more likely to exercise leadership as a result of your experiences in AP classes. • Students who earn a 3 or better on an AP exam may be awarded college credit by the college they choose to attend. Students should check with each school to find out what their policy about AP credit and how it will be applied.

19. Why Take Dual Credit Classes? • Classes are taught on the CHHS campus by TCC instructors; however, students gain BOTH unweighted high school and college credit. • Students who take a dual credit class must enroll and pay fees and tuition as well as meet TCC’s admission requirements. • Students must have good attendance and follow TCC classroom guidelines.

20. Dual Enrollment Meetings Students interesting in enrolling in dual enrollment classes must attend one of the following mandatory meetings: • Feb 4th - at Parent University (7:45 p.m.) • February 13- 8 a.m. in Lecture Hall • February 13- 4:15 p.m. in Lecture Hall • February 21-During lunches in Lecture Hall

21. AP, GT, and PAP Programs There will be another Parent University Session to discuss the AP and PAP Programs at 7:00 tonight in the auditorium.

22. Off Campus Classes • Gymnastics (must provide own transportation) • Swimming / Diving • GHS classes • Shuttle buses run to Swim Center & GHS, as noted on the course selection sheet and in the Program of Studies

23. Extra Curricular Activities • Major Time Commitment • College Recognition • Opportunity to build leadership skills. • Socialization • School Spirit!

24. Hints for Course Selection • Choose classes that will challenge, but not overwhelm the student. • Gains in GPA and class rank come from a combination of challenging courses AND good grades. • If a course was too difficult in the past, it is quite possible that the next level course will be too difficult as well. Talk with your teacher for advice. • Map out a time management plan identifying preparation time for classes, time requirements for extracurricular activities and free time.
