Background • Government White Paper on 14-19 Education and Skills • Specialised Diplomas will be available at 3 levels across 14 lines of learning • First teaching from September 2008 for phase 1, September 2009 for phase 2, September 2010 for phase 3 • Build on existing good practice and partnerships
Specialised Diplomas • Will be employer led through the Sector Skills Councils • Attract young people into the sector, widening participation • Provide progression into either employment or further / higher education • Meet the skill and knowledge required for employment • Provide sector relevant learning in real or realistic environments
How are the Diplomas made up? • Principal learning • sector related, determines Diploma title • Additional / specialist learning • specialisation in sector, complimentary area • Generic learning • functional skills, project, personal learning skills • Work experience • 10 days at each level

Land-based and Environmental Specialised Diplomas • Developments to date: • Project team set up: produced plan and brief for 31 March deadline (SSDA/DfES) • Communications group set up • Steering group set up • Working groups to be established (such as FE/HE, WEX/WRL, Schools, AB’s).
