  3. READY, STEADY…WAIT! Exploring was more than trailblazing. Proper outfitting and preparation were needed. We will begin with some basic yet important skills.

  4. The Compass show you many things… MOST IMPORTANTLY: • It Provides a Reference Direction ( Magnetic North ) • It helps you keep a course.

  5. THE RED MARK INDICATES MAGNETIC NORTH. THIS FLUER DE LIS WILL ALWAYS POINT TO NORTH. THE YELLOW ARROW INDICATES THE DIRECTION YOU ARE FACING.

  6. YOU FIND YOUR COURSE ON A COMPASS BY READING THE MARKINGS ON THE COMPASS ROSE. THE MARKINGS ARE THE CARDINAL DIRECTIONS

  7. AT THIS MOMENT THE COMPASS SHOWS YOU FACING EAST. WHAT DIRECTION ARE YOU FACING WHEN THE ARROW STOPS? EAST WEST SOUTH NORTH
