    1. Indicators of progress in FS and KS 1 A guide for Essex Schools developed in conjunction with Essex County Council.

    2. Guidelines and warnings EYFS and NC are very different frameworks and have very different assessment outcomes. There is no reliable, universal conversion formula. There are correlations that can be drawn but these vary considerably from one area of assessment to another. Ofsted suggest that KS 1 progress should be measured as Teacher Assessment from an entry level into year 1 to the end of year 2. Ofsted also suggests that more able children should make more progress in terms of National Curriculum levels (unlike the 12 points for all in KS 2). Ideally, therefore children coming up from Reception should be assessed using National Curriculum levels. One source of this evidence may be the outcomes from EYFS. Children who are working below level 1 in year 1 should continue to be assessed using the EYFSP at least until the summer term in year 1. P-scales should be used for children with SLD or those for whom EYFSP is no longer appropriate. For the sake of ease of understanding, this document has matched EYFS points with APS to show possible indicators of progress in KS 1, ie 9 EYFSP points matches level 1B or 9 points APS.
