Lesson Aims • To understand the role of trade unions • To understand that both employers and employees have responsibilities in the workplace Lesson Outcomes • To have completed a gap-fill exercise explaining the role of trade unions • To have written your own contract between students and the school

  3. Understanding the role of trade unions • Read through the text and insert the correct words into the gaps. • If you have finished then read through the information about contracts of employment.

  4. Key Words • Trade Unions: Organizations that look after the interests of a group of employees. • Contract of Employment: A document which details an employees and employers responsibilities for a particular job • Dismissal: When employers end an employees contract of employment • Employment Tribunal: A type of court dealing only with disagreements over employment laws • Redundancy: When a person loses their job because the job doesn't need to be done anymore.

  5. Contracts of employmentFriday 24th November • You now have to write a contract for Mount Carmel between students and the school. • Use the information on the worksheet as a guide for what to include.

  6. Homework • To revise for an end of unit assessment next Friday 1st December • Remember to bring your file back to class next week!
