Principles of infection control:Standard Precautions Water Quality Water used for: Dental Unit Irrigation Drinking Sink Instrument cleaning Steriliser
Steriliser water - Quality of feed water Low quality water seriously effects on sterilizer function. shortens the working life of the sterilizer.
Autoclave using water from a fitted reverse osmosis system was un-repairable. Using appropriate water may appear expensive at the time but will prove totally economical if it extends the life of the steriliser.
Principles of infection control:Standard Precautions Water Quality Distilled water Sterile water At the very least potable water
Dental unit water Water has no requirement other than it be potable.& It should be free of E coli, Cryptosporidium, Giardia but the number of other bacterial or colonies do not pose an infection control risk. There is one exception. Immunocompromised patients such as those with AIDS, leukaemia, organ transplants should have dental work done with water which has less than 200 colony forming units per ml.
Dental unit water Dental unit water lines will develop bio-film, if lines are not flushed regularly. Flush regularly between patients Units should have anti-retraction valves May need decontamination of dental unit water lines on a regular basis.
