HYPOTHESIS My hypothesis for the question “Will an egg bounce if you soak it in vinegar?” is that the egg will bounce if you soak it in vinegar because the acetic acid in the vinegar will break down the shell of the egg and will eventually disintegrate the shell. The membrane of the egg will become the outside layer and the membrane will bounce from 2 to 3 feet because the membrane has something called keratin which makes it tough. Keratin allows the membrane to bounce.
RESEARCH • ALL THIS CAUSES THE EGG TO BOUNCE : • My research showed that the egg will bounce because of the substance acetic acid in vinegar • Calcium carbonate is what makes the shell of an egg hard and what makes the shell crack easily • When the acetic acid of the vinegar comes in contact with the calcium carbonate the acetic acid disintegrates the calcium carbonate • This leaves the membrane of the egg • The membrane contains something called keratin which allows the egg to be tough and bounce
MATERIALS THESE ARE THE MATERIALS NEED TO COMPLETE THE EXPERIMENT: • 1 hard-boiled egg • 1 raw egg • 2 cups of white vinegar • 2 clear jars or glasses • 1 spoon big enough to pick an egg up • A ruler to see how high the egg will bounce
PROCEDURE The procedure for my experiment is: • Get the materials you need • Cook an egg in boiling water to make it hard-boiled • Get a raw egg • Pour white vinegar into 2 glasses big enough to hold an egg • Put a hard-boiled egg a glass filled with white vinegar • Put a raw egg in a glass filled with white vinegar • Leave the egg in the vinegar for 24 to 48 hours • Take the egg out of the cup of vinegar • Observe the egg and see if the eggs shell has dissolved • Drop the egg from 2 to 3 feet • Measure how high the egg bounced • Record your observations

GRAPH WILL AN EGG BOUNCE IF YOU SOAK IT IN VINEGAR?
CONCLUSION My conclusion is that if you soak an egg in vinegar for a few days it will bounce. This means my hypothesis was right because my hypothesis said that the egg would bounce because of the acetic acid in vinegar that dissolves the shell. Though I was right in saying that the egg would bounce, I was wrong and right in saying that it would bounce from 60 to 90 centimeters. The raw egg exploded when I dropped it from 50 centimeters, but the hard-boiled egg bounced from 90 centimeters. I hope this experiment showed that an egg will bounce if you soak it in vinegar.
