  9. Minimizing Cost by Maximizing Resources • Center for Development and Disability at the University of New Mexico – Tips for First Responders • Project REDD, Center on Disability and Development at Texas A&M University – Mobile Tips • CDS received source code from Project REDD to create mobile site • Contracted SuperGeeks to create IOS and Android Apps replicating mobile site. • Purchased developer accounts for CDS with Apple and Google

  10. Becoming an App Developer • Approved organization • Pay a fee • Submit potential apps for approval

  11. CDS as an App Developer • CDS now owns annual developer licenses with both Apple and Google. • Developer licenses: • Are a nominal cost • Require annual renewals • Are per agency not per app • Are managed through Media Center.

  12. CDS IS an App Developer • CDS Developer Account is available: -TO ALL PROJECTS -By Contacting MEDIA CENTER at cdsweb@hawaii.edu

  13. Things to think about • What need does it fill? • Who is going to use it? • Are there other similar things out there? • What do you want the app to do? • What is the simplest way to share the information?

  14. Things to Remember • Static vs. Dynamic tools • Every time you add a layer of interaction between the user and the tool you add time and expense • Be realistic about what is needed for the tool to be useful FUNFUNCTION

  15. More Things to Remember • The technology needs to match the ability of the end user • You will be working with Media Center- accommodate for that in your budget • Shop around for IT app development bids
