ITU was founded in Paris in 1865 as the International Telegraph Union. It took its present name in 1934, and in 1947 became a specialized agency of the United Nations. • Although its first area of expertise was the telegraph, the work of ITU now covers the whole ICT sector, from digital broadcasting to the Internet, and from mobile technologies to 3D TV.
The ITU-APT Foundation is playing a role of an organization that is deeply involved in the telecommunication activities, particularly in the upstream and downstream activities of the ITU to further the aims and objectives of the Union. The activities of the Foundation cover areas of ITU-R, ITU-T and ITU-D Sectors.
ITU-APT Foundation of India founded in 2003 as a non-political, non-profit and non-governmental body • Is having more than 100 Members from Corporate, Affiliate and Individuals Professionals • ITU-APT Foundation of India is recognised as ITU Association of India and a Sector Member of ITU Development Sector (ITU-D) & ITU Standardization Sector (ITU-T)
Organises various events on topical subjects which have witnessed a huge participation from the government and the private industry from India and abroad in the past (list of events are available on web site www.itu-apt.org ) . • The “Think Tank” on Telecommunication comprising eminent telecom professionals and economists advises the policy makers and regulators on issues of National Interest. • Formulate its views and submit in relation to consultation papers issued by TRAI or Govt.
