Language Arts • Reader’s Workshop • Literature Circles • Novel Studies • MAROO OF THE WINTER CAVES • THE PHAROAH’S SECRET • THE CAY • Language Skills – WRITE SOURCE • Spelling –Packet given Monday test on Friday • Wordly Wise • Each lesson takes 2 weeks test on 2nd Thursday • Students will not have WW and spelling simultaneously
Writing • Mini Lessons that focus on specific writing styles and strategies. • Choice of topic within a particular genre of writing. • Writer’s Notebooks to collect ideas and experiment with work. • Use of picture books to model particular aspects of writing.
Mathematics • Glencoe Mathematics • 6th grade math standards will drive our instruction to ensure deep mathimatical understanding - setting the stage for long term success • Instruction will not be sequential throughout the textbook and other resources will be used to differentiate so that individual needs are met. • Cognitive Guided Instruction (CGI) will be incorporated into instruction to support analytical math reasoning skills • Students will be placed in flexible groups based on needs and learning styles for each standard group. This will be determined by assessments and observation.

Dress Code • No knit caps – hats for sun protection only • No twins, triplets…dress alike – to prevent exclusion • Sunglasses are only to be worn if prescription or with a doctor’s note • Close toe shoes • Undergarments may not be visible • Shorts, Skirts, Dresses must not be shorter than mid thigh

6th Grade Camp February 6th -10th Camp Marston The 6th graders have the opportunity to sell the Saver Cards. For every $10 Saver Card they sell, $5 will go directly towards their camp costs For those 6th grade parents who purchased a card on the PTA for, do not worry. Their child will be credited the $5. All of the money raised through the PTA for the Saver Card will be divided equally amongst the entire 6th grade. The Saver Cards have discounts from area merchants and can be used over and over again through next August 2012.
