  3. School Rules • Listen to others. • Follow directions on first request. • Respect self, others and property. • Make safe choices. • Always do your best!

  4. Classroom Management Systems • Students may earn special privileges by doing their best. • Students may contribute to the overall benefit of their class by earning marbles in a marble jaror just contributing to a positive classroom environment. • Positive notes will come home in agendas. • Reflection Sheets and notes about concerns will also come home in student agendas. • Phone calls and emails will be made when necessary.

  5. Expectations • Agendas must be filled out by students and signed once a week by a parent, guardian, or other adult mentor. • Homework packets are due by Friday with individual assignments due as indicated in Agenda. • 3-4 Week Progress Reports will go home and are due back signed by parents • Reflection Sheets will be sent home if behavior concerns arise. They also need to be signed and returned.

  6. Homework • Required in all core subject areas weekly • Counts as a daily assignment completion grade • Homework is meant to always be a review and practice of a skill previously taught in class.

  7. STAAR Testing Dates Math – April 1, 2014 Reading – April 2, 2014 Science – April 23, 2014

  8. Grading

  9. Tutoring • Beforeschool sessions will be provided. • Dates and eligibility will be announced at a later date. • Benchmark data, daily classroom data, and past test data will be used to determine eligibility.

  10. Report Cards and Awards Assemblies • Report Cards go home each 9 weeks • Progress Reports go home at 3 or 4 week intervals • Awards Assemblies will be on the Friday after the 9 week grading period • Recognition Ribbons will be given based on achievement in academic areas, special areas, and behavior. • Distinguished Achievement • Honorable Achievement • Commitment to Excellence • Excellence in Conduct • Longhorn Leader • Perfect Attendance • Excellence in Special Areas

  11. 5th Grade Curriculum Science with Mrs. Smith: • Emphasis on Earth, Life and Physical Sciences • Hands-on Experiments and Cooperative Group Learning • Strong STEM integration as well as extensions in Wellness. • Performance and Content Assessments

  12. 5th Grade Curriculum Language Arts with Mrs. Ledbetter: • Narrative and Expository Reading, Writing, Listening & Speaking • A shift from learning to read to reading to learn. • More independence required. • Building endurance to read for longer periods of time with a high level of comprehension and ability to discuss, write or answer questions about text.

  13. 5th Grade Curriculum Social Studies, also with Mrs. Ledbetter: • American History & Geography • Document-Based Questions and Writing • Use of Primary Sources • Note-taking and tested on content

  14. 5th Grade Curriculum Math with Mrs. Rojo: • Analysis of multi-step problems • Required mastery math facts and computation • A variety of ways to estimate and solve problems • Application to real life events • Introduction into Algebraic thinking

  15. Field Trips • Outdoor School – Sept. 23-25, 2013 • Port Aransas – another overnight trip (1 night in the Spring) • WAYA • Others TBD

Middle School Transition Plans and Options Home Campuses: • We need to verify each students home (district) elementary and middle school Charter Schools • Require applications but no portfolio Magnet Schools: • Guest speakers will come to share information with students and parents • Open House visitation dates will be announced • Application Process will be supported at school • Portfolios required • https://www.austin.isd.tenet.edu/schools/magnets/
