  2. Compound words When we combine two words to form a new word, we call it a compound word. Compound words are pronounced with equal stress or emphasis on each word. out + field = outfield champion + ship = championship quarter + back = quarterback

  3. Suffix -tion -tion = act of or state of (pronounced “shun”) Key words: operation, construction (changes a verb to a noun)

  4. Suffix -ion -ion = condition of, state of (pronounced “yun”) Key Word: reunion, champion
