File Types • The types of files that can be imported into SimLab can be classified into • CAD files • SimLab files • Tessellation files • Analysis input files
CAD Import SimLab supports direct CAD import for ProE and Parasolid geometry. No manual geometry cleanup required. No CAD geometry translation error. For Other CAD systems, a conversion to Parasolid or STEP 203 or STEP 214 before meshing is recommended. When a CAD assembly is imported the parts in the assembly are displayed in the tree view. SimLab files SimLab database Has extension .slb (Example: Sample.slb) Binary file A database can be imported into another database Graphics Data file Has extension .gda (Example:Sample.gda) Binary file Has geometry and mesh data with topology Does not have loads/Material etc.. SimLab Files
Tessellation files STL Has extension .stl Has the geometry as a collection of disconnected tri-elements VRML Has extension .wrl Has the geometry as groupings of tri-elements Tessellation Files

When “Ctrl + S” is pressed, the current data base will be saved. Pressing “Ctrl+S” for the second time will save the database with extension *.slb.1/*.slb.2 and so on keeping the first saved data base untouched. “File | Save As” is used to save the database in a new name. General
