Curriculum and Assessment Policy document Implementation dates: 2012 – Grd R – 3 2013 – Grd 4 – 6 2014 – Grd 7 Main aim – one standardised system applicable in all schools in the country specifically when learners move from schools. CAPS
Formal test will be written in Term 1 and Term 3. Two Formal Exams will be written during the year - - June Mid-Year Exam - November Final Exams The aim of the Department of Education is to let all schools write exams at more or less the same time so set timeframes will apply. Assessment
All Formal tests and Mid-Year Exams are part of Continuous Assessment which means all marks for the term are added together and a % calculated. From 2014 the weighting will be: Weighting of Formal Tests and Exams
The following are guidelines for determining a learner’s promotion from Grade 7in the Senior Phase: (a) Adequate Achievement (Level 4) in English (b) Moderate Achievement (Level 3) in Afrikaans (c) Moderate Achievement (Level 3) in Mathematics (d) Moderate Achievement (Level 3) in any other three of the remaining subjects (e) Elementary Achievement (Level) in any other two subjects Minimum Requirements for Progression
Montrose will offer two Grade 7 Tours in 2014 if we have enough interested learners • The cost of these Tours is • Cape Garden Route Tour – R 6200 (56 learners) • Kwa-Zulu Natal Tour – R 3500 (must have 20 learners) • Financial issues Grade 7 Tours

Selection Process Leadership
Grade 6 teachers have attended a leadership workshop Leadership qualities are explained to the voters All grade 6 learners vote for 15 girls and 15 boys (or less) All grade 6 teachers vote for 15 girls and 15 boys (or less) The grade 7 Learner Council votes for 15 girls and 15 boys (or less) Voting
All votes are tallied (Stephenson and Callander) A shortlist of the top +/- 60 learners is compiled Each shortlisted learner is put onto the criteria list Shortlisting
Each grade 6 teacher is given all 60 of the shortlisted learners to evaluate on the criteria list The scores are combined and a percentage for each child is given Learners who attain 75% or higher are made Learner Councillors These learners will be announced at the InterSenprizegiving Evaluation
