  2. Rocky Mountains • Lewis and Clark found a way through the rocky mountains. Rocky Mountains- Spanish territory It was difficult to get there because it was snow covered.

  3. Texas Independence • The Alamo- former Spanish mission, • The American troops made it into a fort • Mexicans troops lead by Santa Ana killed all the Americans living there but not before they killed over 1000 Mexican soldiers. • The Americans sacrificed there life's and it inspired the Texans to fight for independence.

  4. Buena Vista • In February 1847 General Taylor met Mexican General Santa Anna at the battle of Buena Vista. • The Americans were better prepared and had a better leader and forced Santa Anna to retreat.

  5. Oregon Trail • People(settlers) moved to the west because they were looking for good farmland • Some of the plains were dry so they moved farther west.

  6. Gold rush • Sacrament0,California- Gold Rush started near California • It started in sutters mill
