ESAW : administrative source (EODS similar) Strengths Harmonisation : variables Periodicity : annual series (since 1993) Pertinence : detailed data including causes (2001-2005) & consequences (days lost, permanent incapacity, fatality) Reliability : high causality Weaknesses Comparability : not exhaustive in all countries, though corrections are made, differences in insurance schemes Coverage : not complete (self-employed, public sector, etc.) Timeliness : publication > reference year + 2 years
LFS ad-hoc module : survey Strengths Coverage : complete Pertinence (accidents): detailed characteristics of the employment & labour market situation of victims + effects of the injury on the employment status Pertinence : work-related health problems, other than injuries, caused or only made worse by work Reliability : large sample (650 000 persons - 11 MS + HU) Weaknesses Comparability : no administrative biases but comparability problems : types of interviews + still effects of regulations, levels of information, etc., on answers (self-assesment) Periodicity : no annual series, though to be repeated
