Suffolk County Community College Title III Grant Principal Investigator: Dr. Shaun McKay, President, SCCC • What is a Title III Grant? • A federal program that helps eligible institutions of higher education to expand their capacity to improve and strengthen the academic quality, institutional management, and fiscal stability. • What is the goal of SCCC’s five year (2010-2015) Title III Grant? • To increase student engagement through informed support. The activities in the current grant will dramatically improve student success and engagement at Suffolk County Community College.
What is the Library’s role in the grant? To provide information literacy learning objects to students through the Virtual Learning Commons.
What is a learning object? Online learning material that is: • Based on a single learning objective. • Self contained and reusable. • Concise, but rich in content. • Self paced and stand alone.

Outreach to Students • College Seminar and Gateway course professors will demonstrate the VLC in their classes • VLC screensavers on all computers in the Academic Computing Centers • VLC posters in all campus buildings
