  4. ACTIVITIES • Informational meeting on GEF and UNEP held in May 2005 • Presentation to technical staff about GEF and RAF in May 2006 • Presentation to high-level managerial staff of Ministry about GEF and RAF policies and procedures in June 2006 • Ministry’s web site used

  5. ACTIVITIES(cont’d) • National Dialogue Workshop held on 26-27 June 2006 • Working groups on: * Biodiversity * Climate change * Land degradation * Small Grants Programme • Set country priorities

PRIORITY SETTING PROCESS • Stakeholders consulted in the workshop • Ministries • Municipalities • Universities • Non-governmental Organizations • Private Sector (Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey) • Other Concerned Institutions (Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey) • Agencies (WB, UNDP, REC)

  7. PRIORITY SETTING PROCESS • Setting biodiversity priorities: • Review Problems and requirements • Consultations and suggestions • Review Legislation and National Biodiversity Strategies • Review GEF Biodiversity Strategic Priorities • Hold Discussions • Reach Consensus on priorities

PRIORITY SETTING PROCESS • Setting climate change priorities: • Discussions on climate change and its effects • Consultations and Suggestions • Review results of preparatory work for National Climate Change Action Plan and Sustainable Development • Review results of the 11th Conference of Parties (COP 11) to the UNFCCC • Review GEF Climate Change Strategic Priorities • Reach Consensus on priorities

  9. COUNTRY’S PRIORITIES • Biodiversity • Protected area management and its financial sustainability. • Gap analysis in existing protected area network • Provision of sustainable integrated management in water basins and ecosystems with priority.

  10. Biodiversity (cont’d) • Establishment of institutional structure for monitoring and evaluating current status, threats and protection measures for Biodiversity • Integration of biodiversity into forest management plan and protection of degraded forests

  11. COUNTRY’S PROIRITIES • Climate Change • Energy efficiency • New and renewable energy • Forestation

OBJECTIVES • To support projects that help to fulfill Turkey’s commitments under international conventions • To organize seminars and meetings aiming to enhance awareness about GEF at the central and local levels • To form the country’s priorities in biodiversity and climate change focal areas

  13. OBJECTIVES(cont’d) • To translate GEF documents into Turkish language. • To set up Turkish web site on GEF • To organize a meeting with participants from all institutions in order to form a national coordination unit for GEF

  14. SUGGESTION • To establish bilateral relations with countries of constituency and other countries in order to exchange information and share experiences concerning GEF
