  2. Create a New Presentation • Go to the Start menu / All Programs /Microsoft Office /Microsoft PowerPoint • Clickthe ‘Office Button’ , choose “New ” • In the “New Presentation” Task Pane,choose “Blank presentation”

  3. Add Text to Your Title Slide • Your first slide comes up by default in the “Title Slide” format • To add a title to your slide • Click in the ‘Click to add title’ box • Type ‘My First Presentation’ • To add a subtitle to your slide • Click in the ‘Click to add subtitle’ box • Type ‘By: Your Name’ • Also type “Your Student ID”

  4. Insert a New Slide • Go to Home/ New Slide • By default the layout of the new slide will be ‘Bulleted List’

Bulleted List Slide • Click on the title box and type in “Elements” • Enter information into the Bulleted List • Click inside the bulleted list box • Type ‘Transition Metals,’ Press the ‘Enter’ key • Press the ‘Tab’ key • Type in ‘Titanium,’ Press the ‘Enter’ key • Press the ‘Tab’ key • Type in ‘Symbol: Ti,’ Press the ‘Enter’ key • While holding down the ‘Shift’ key, press ‘Tab’ • Type in ‘Gold,’ Press the ‘Enter’ key • Continue the same way as with the transition metals, but add in the information shown • Transition Metals – Titanium • Symbol: Ti– Gold • Symbol: Au • Noble Gases – Helium • Symbol: He – Neon • Symbol: Ne

  6. Insert a New Slide & Change Layout • Go to Home/ New Slide • Notice that the layout again defaults to “BulletedList” and the “Slide Layout” Task Pane showsup on the right • Click on the “Title Only” layouta. Note that when you hover over the layouts, youcan see their names

Adding Clip Art to a Slide • Click on the title area and type ‘This SlideContains Clip Art’ • To switch to the “Clip Art” Task Pane… Select “Insert Clip Art” from the drop down list • Under “Search for” type in an item to search for • Under “Search In” make sure that “Everywhere” is selected • Under “Results should be” choose “All media types” • Click the “Search” button • Click on the item that you want to insert • Try searching again with different parameters

Using the Slide Master: Title Font • Go to View / Slide Master • To change the title font of all your slides • Click on the ‘Click to edit Master title style’ box • Go to Home/ Font • Change the font to be ‘Arial,’ size 40 • Make the font color blue • Go back to View / Normal • Notice that the title fonts of all your slides have changed Note: The Slide Master changes the appearance of all of yourslides at once!

Using the Slide Master: Bullets • Go to View / SlideMaster • To change the format of thebullets • Click anywhere on the firstlevel of the bulleted list • Go to Home/ Bullets • Select a bullet style • Edit the rest of the levels inthe same way. Try severalnumbering and bullet styles. • Go back to View / Normal • Notice that all bulleted lists havethe new bullet styles.

Viewing Your Presentation • Use different options in the view menu to view your presentation; • Go to View /Normal • The main editing view • Shows an outline of your presentation on the left and one slide on the right • Go to View / Slide Sorter • Lets you see your full presentation • Click and drag your slides to a different order • Go to View/ Slide Show • Presents your slides • Click the mouse or press the right arrow to advance to the next • Press Esc to quit

Background Colors and Textures • Go to Design/ BackgroundStyles (rightcorner) • Click Format Background and choose ‘Fill’ • Click on the ‘GradientFill’ tab • Make a two color gradientfromPresetcolors • You can also make thebackground a Texture, Pattern, orPicture • Choose ‘Apply to All’ • All of your slides will now havethis new background.

  12. Design Templates • You may have noticed that when you made the coloredbackground, you couldn’t see the text in your slide. DesignTemplates are predefined formats for your text and background. • Go to the “Design”tab • Choose one that you like and click on it • Notice that it takes over all the slides in the presentation • Hit Ctrl-Z to undo.

Design Templates • Now, right-click on the design template that you like and choose“Apply to selected slides” • Notice that it only affects the current slide • Go to View / Slide Master • Notice that there are now multiple masters, one for the templateand one with your other design changes • Go to View / Normal to get out of the slide master.

Graphics: WordArt • Go to the first slide in your presentation • Click on the box that has your title ‘My First Presentation’ • Delete the existing title • Click on the border of the title box so that it becomes more solid • Press the ‘Delete’ key to remove the box • Go to Insert / WordArt • Choose the format of the WordArt • Type in the text “Periodic Table of Elements” • You can move around and resize your WordArt

Graphics: Importing Graphics from theWeb • Save your presentation • Minimize PowerPoint • Start upInternet ExplorerorMozillaFirefox • Go to http://www.google.com • Search for periodic table in images • Chooseone and ‘Save Image As’ byrightclickingthemouse • Save the image on the desktop • Maximize PowerPoint • Go to Insert / Picture • Navigate to the image that you saved on the desktop • Now move, resize, and rotate this image.

Graphics: Screen Shots • To insert a screenshotintoyourpresentation; • Gotowww.webelements.com and take a screenshotwith a picture in it withprintscreenkey, • Pastethepageintoanothernewslide • Click on theimage and usethecroptooltocutawayall but thepictureyouwant • Crop is located on thepicturetoolbar.

  17. Multimedia: SlideTransitions • Go to the “Animations” task pane, • Choose the transition called “coverdown”, • The current slide will give a preview of what the transition looks like, • Click on “apply to all slides” at the rightside • Go to View / Slide Show to see what it will look like.

Multimedia: AnimationSchemes • Go to the slide with the bulleted list and selectthelist • Go to the “Animate”. • Select an animation scheme and see what it looks like, • If you want to see it again, click on thePreviewbutton on theleftcorner . • Look at a few different schemes, and chooseone of them • Click on “Slide Show” to see in context Note: Animations animate objects within your slide during a slideshow

  19. DrawingTools • Add a newslidetoyourpresentation, • ThenfromInsert / Shapes / BasicShapesadd a smilingface • Now move and resizetheautoshapeappropriateplace on theslidethenadd “ Thankyou”. • Saveyourpresentationwithyourstudent ID.
