Republic Day is dedicated to all those who fought for our Independence. This day marks the making of our Constitution. Vaikundarajan believes the contribution of the constitution makers and the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters helped India shape into the strong country that it is today.

The Indian constitution came in to force on Republic Day, thus replacing the archaic Government of India Act (1935) • Republic Day honours the date on which the Constitution was created and is a remainder of the hard work and dedication of the countries freedom fighters, says Vaikundarajan http://vaikundarajans.wordpress.com

On 26 November 1949, the Constituent Assembly of India passed the Constitution but it was only adopted on 26 January 1950 with a democratic government system, says Vaikundarajan • This enactment completed the country's transition toward becoming an independent republic • The date of 26 January was selected because it was this day in 1930 when PurnaSwaraj was proclaimed by the Indian National Congress http://vaikundarajanblog.blogspot.in
