Section 13 Medical Surveillance • Employer must establish a system of medical surveillance for employees: • Appoint an OMP with extra qualification in Occupational Medicine ( Not Medical Practitioner) • Employees must undergo medical examination within 30 days of commencement of work • Annual medical examination depending on the occupational hygiene measurement (RBM) • Exit medical examination when an employee leaves the mine(dismissal, resignation, retrenchment)
SECTION 16 (1) • OMP must compile a report in the DMR format(DMR) annually and submit & discuss with the employer, regarding the health of employees • Employer MUST submit this report to the PI, before end February the following year (2013 for 2012) • Failure to comply will results in IOM recommending administration fine (to employer) • Employer must be registered with the Compensation Commissioner ( for reporting accidents & occupational diseases)
FIRST AID TRAINING • Employer must ensure that there is a person trained in FA on each shift worked at the mine • FA provider must have the following to be recognized as trainer: Accreditation certificate from CI of DOL, FA level 3 & Instructor certificate. • FA level 1 training must be conducted for 2 days. Certificates are valid for 3years • Keep a FA box at the operation, to be checked monthly for expiry dates.(wound cleaning solution). No medication to be kept in the FA box
