  2. Existing process - EDI / IDoc • EDI transmission is standard, mature, and widely used mechanism to transfer data electronically. • During SAP implementation, EDI interfaces are developed. A middleware is used to convert these EDI transmission/messages into a format that SAP can understand and interpret. • SAP has its proprietary functionality IDoc (Intermediate document) to temporarily house the data before posting appropriate business transaction. • IDoc can be used for many interfacing mechanism.

  3. Existing process - Issues • IDoc could fail due to various reasons like incorrect data in transmission (from source system), incorrect data in SAP, and missing master data etc. • Due to time constraints, customer / vendor relationship, or nature of the data it is not always possible to get another EDI transmission from source for the failed data. • At every organization there is a need to edit and re-process IDoc data within SAP. Existing process - Issues • IDoc error monitoring not in place. • IDoc structure too technical for business users. • Using SAP standard tools, IDoc data correction is very tedious, time consuming, and complex effort. • All or None editing access with SAP standard transaction and authorization. • Need for additional expensive custom development to support SAP IDoc interface. • Very limited IDoccontent search capabilities provided by SAP standard transaction. • Mass IDoc update capabilities not available.
