Choose a FIFA world cup competition to research and communicate when and were the competition was held. • FIFA World Cup is the world championship for men’s national association football teams • The 2010 FIFA World Cup was the 19th FIFA World Cup. It took place in South Africa from 11 June to 11 July 2010. • The matches were played in ten stadiums in nine different cities around the country; the final game was held at the Soccer City stadium in Johannesburg; one of the largest city in South Africa.
Who were the finalists, who won, include the score. • The Final game was held between Spain, the European champion, and the Netherlands . • The Netherlands team got defeated by Spain in the third-time finalists; the score was 1–0 after extra time. Spain Netherland
What was the scoring sequence and who scored? • Andrés Iniesta was the player no 6 who scored the goal in the 116th minute giving Spain their first world title. • It was the first time that a European nation won the tournament outside its home continent.
Choose 1 of the goals and describe using Football terminology the sequence • Just before the goal was scored, the Netherland team had a free kick that hit the wall before going out, this should have given the Netherland team a good opportunity to have a corner kick, but this goal kick was given to Spain, which led to the goal. The Netherland, briefly had control of the ball near the Spanish penalty area in between the goal kick and Iniesta'sgoal.
Meanings of some words • Free Kick: A kick given to an opposite player when a player has made a foul. Free kicks can be either direct or indirect. • Corner Kick: A free kick taken from the corner of the field by an attacker. The corner kick is awarded when the ball has passed over the goal line after last touching a protective player. The shot is taken from the corner nearest to where the ball went out. • Goal Kick: A goal kick is given to the defending team when the ball is played over the goal line by the attacking team. It can be taken by any play even though it’s usually the goal.
More meanings • Penalty: A penalty kick is given when a foul has been committed inside the penalty area in front of the goal. A penalty is taken by one player opposite the goalkeeper.
What could the defense have done to more effectively try and stop the goal being scored? • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKc_6X0q11whttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joris_Mathijsen • JorisMathijsen and Rafael van derVaart could have surrounded Andrés Iniesta better because when he was shooting the goal, the whole area was free. Moreover when Iniesta shot his goal, the ball went to the opposite side of where the goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg was but if the two players defended their area well Iniesta wouldn’t have gotten the chance to score the winning goal.
Using the same scoring sequence what individual skills have been used by the attacking team? • In 10th minutes (in the first half of the game): Ramos turned around Kuyt inside the Netherlands area and hit a goal kick across the field but he missed it. • 47th minute (in the second half of the game): Capdevila swung his foot at the ball 5 yards from the goal and couldn’t not have a shot • 76th minute (in the second half of the game): Xavi and Villa worked very well together sending a number of passes to each other, but Villa had his shot blocked. • 116th minute (extra time): Andrés iniesta shot the winning goal making Spain the winners of the FIFA world cup.
Was there any movement ‘off the ball’ by other attackers to draw defenders away from the goal scorer? If yes what happened and what was the effect of this? • I saw some of the players tricking the other team when they were running to the other side for example they pretended they were going to one side even though they went to the other side and some players fell for that trick also, just before the winning goal got shot by Spain a player in Spain passed the ball to Andrés Iniesta but he was close to the ball so the Netherland tried to take it then he slipped and Andrés Iniesta took the ball and got the winning goal!!
