DISTRICT CHALLENGES • IGR FROM LOCAL- DISTRICT- PROVINCIAL- NATIONAL NEEDS TO BE STRENGTHENED • BUSINESS ESPECIALLY CLOTHING AND TEXTILE OPERATIONAL COSTS SUCH AS WAGES, POWER, RATES AND TAXES ETC • ILLEGAL IMPORTS • RAND DOLLAR EXCHANGE RAND CURRENTLY TOO ROBUST • CUT MAKE & TRIM UNDER PRESSURE • MINING LOCAL MARKET DOMINATED BY LARGE COMPANIES

DISTRICT CHALLENGES • SPOORNET DOES NOT HAVE THE CAPACITY TO MOVE COAL • EXPORT LIMITED BY RICHARDS BAY TERMINAL • DME RED TAPE FOR MINING APPLICATIONS • ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENTS – TIME FRAMES TO LENGTHILY • PRIVATE SECTOR DEVELOPMENT HAMPERED DUE TO NON DELIVERY BY GOV DEPARTMENTS CAUSING DEVELOPMENT TO STALL AND LOSS OF JOBS

  6. DISTRICT CHALLENGES • ROAD NETWORK LEADING INTO AMAJUBA ALMOST NON EXISTENT DUE TO POTHOLES • ACCESS TO FINANCE LIMITED • HIV/ AIDS LOSS OF SKILLED LABOUR • RURAL LOCATION, LOW SALARIES, NOT ATTRACTIVE TO HIGHLY QUALIFIED LABOUR

  7. RESOLUTIONS MINING • ESTABLISH A MINING FORUM • CO- ORDINATE SOCIAL CONTRIBUTION FROM MINING HOUSES • CO-ORDINATE THE IMPACT ON LED IN LINE WITH THE IDP • SOLVE RED TAPE ISSUES

RESOLUTIONS AGRIC • EXISTING AFLED AGRIC STRUCTURE TO BE UTILISED FOR THE CO- ORDINATION OF PROJECTS • THE COMMITTEE MUST BE UTILISED AS A PLATFORM FOR PARTICIPATION OF ALL STAKEHOLDERS • DEPT AGRIC & IDT TO FOCUS ON TRAINING & MENTORSHIP • HORN RIVER DAIRY PROJECT PRIORITISED FOR IMPLEMENTATION – DEPT AGRIC & RURAL DEVELOPMENT TO TAKE FORM FOCUS GROUP FOR IMPLEMENTATION

  9. RESOLUTIONS CLOTHING & TEXTILES • CLOTHING & TEXTILE COMMITTEE TO BE ESTABLISHED • ASSIST IN THE COMPLIANCE OF GOV LAWS AND PROGRAMS • IDC & DTI TO FUND THE INDUSTRY & ESTABLISH OFFICES IN NEWCASTLE • IMPORTS & EXPORT • CMT SECTOR CHALLENGES

  10. CONCLUSION • AMAJUBA DISTRICT MUNICIPALITY, NEWCASTLE MUNICIPALITY & TIK TO ESTABLISH THE COMMITTEES AND ENSURE RELEVANT STAKEHOLDERS ATTEND • TARGET DATE JULY 2010
