  2. Free Enterprise System You live in a country that operates as a free enterprise system. A free enterprise economy is one in which individuals and businesses play a major role in making decisions. In a free enterprise system, people can operate any type of business they choose, provided it is lawful.
  3. Economic Freedom In the United States People are free to be creative and choose where they work. People are free to own private property and buy whatever they want. The government allows people to buy or sell whatever they wish, so long as it doesn’t harm others. Consumer wants and needs determine what products are desired in the marketplace. Business can compete against each other to make money. Those who sell successful products and services make a profit. profit is the money left after all expenses are paid
  4. The Workplace New types of jobs are created each year. A global economy is a financial interconnection among the countries of the world. It means that parts or entire products are created in one country for sale to customers in other countries.
  5. Services – nonmaterial assistance for which people are willing to pay. Occupations Offering the Greatest Number of New Jobs Registered Nurse Retail Sales Customer Service Representatives Food Prep Workers Office Clerks, General Personal and Home care Aides Home health aides Postsecondary teachers Janitors and cleaners Nursing aides, orderlies and attendants
  6. Factors that affect the workplace. Quality. Quality means producing a product with the least possible flaws and how well you treat customers . Teamwork approach Workplaces use teams of workers to seek solutions to problems. Family A flexible work arrangement which allows for a flexible schedule. Programs offered to employees are on site day care vouchers or financial assistance for child care vacation programs for children adoption assistance on-site shoe repair, dry cleaners, or food stores.

Factors Affecting the Labor Market Social Changes Self-sufficient – people who can take care of themselves; who can earn a salary that will support their needs and wants as well as those of their future families. Population Shifts Demographics-characteristics of makeup of a population What are the demographics of our Class?
  8. Diversity-people of different racial , ethic, and cultural backgrounds. Do we have a diverse class? The Economy- A strong economy means there is a high demand for goods. A weak economy means there is unemployment and less money to spend on items that are not needed.
  9. World Events- Earthquakes, floods, and tornadoes can decrease production but increase needs for certain items. Government Action- Government plans affect business in a negative or positive way. Example: A new road can move traffic flow from one area to another area.

Technology The application of scientific principles The computer revolution totally change in the way people live and work caused by computers Telecommuting isworking at home through an electronic linkup with the central office Internet isthe computer linkup of individuals, groups, and organizations. E-tailing is electronic retailing E-commerce is electronic commerce
