  6. Where LinkSat Fits Into the IP Stack:Layers 1.5, 2, & 3

  7. LinkIP v3 Edge • 1U Chassis in 1, 2, and 4 WAN port configurations

  8. LinkIP v3 Core • 2U chassis w/ 4, 8, 12, and 16 WAN port configurations

  9. LinkShrink Data Compression • LinkSat’s proprietary lossless, low latency data compression engine • Compresses packet headers and payload • Multiple compression engines run simultaneously on LinkIP: low latency & zero latency payload compression engines run in parallel • Makes data compressibility decisions automatically • Processes packets based on packet characteristics • Compression decisions based on any combination of QoS, ToS, IP protocol, UDP port, and/or TCP port • Compression ratio achieved depends on compressibility of data; VoIP can typically be compressed 30-60% • Compression can be configured per LinkIP WAN or LAN port and can be independently configured on each port • Outperforms all other competitors’ compression solutions

  10. LinkIP Advanced Routing • High performance, high throughput wire speed router • Based on Linux Advanced Routing and Traffic Control (LARTC) • 10/100/1000 Ethernet ports • Dynamic routing • OSPF , BGP, RIP v1 & v2 / ISIS and other protocols supported • LinkCast - Unique addressing scheme enables dynamic routing in satellite multi-destination networks • Policy routing • Bandwidth control mechanism for sharing bandwidth amongst different routes • Prioritizes traffic by type, source, destination, port number, and custom tagging • Traffic Shaping • QoS / ToS • Differentiated Services (DiffServ) • Router egress queue used as controlled buffer by SCAN bandwidth manager

  11. LinkCast Dynamic Routing • LinkIP’s unique layer 1.5 transport protocol enables dynamic routing within RMD architecture • Multiple layer 2.5 point-to-point links are shared over each broadcast carrier • OSPF used as interior gateway protocol, and BGP used as exterior gateway protocol • Allows automatic rerouting of traffic if a route fails • Easy network configuration – simply add new routes into local LinkIP and OPSF/BGP updates network routing tables • Works in concert with LinkShrink compression

  12. Routed Multi-Destination (RMD) Network Architecture • LinkSat’s unique, highly efficient networking scheme • Allows both MESH and STAR network configurations • Single outbound carrier transmitted from each site • Outbound packets for entire network aggregated onto one carrier • 10-20% bandwidth savings realized through statistical multiplexing of outbound IP traffic • Single transmit carrier - no intermod products = smaller PA’s • Multiple receive paths • Multiple demodulators at each site, each tuned to an outbound carrier from another site • Enables full or partial mesh networking • LinkIP filters and routes packets at receive sites • LinkCast - unique addressing scheme enables dynamic routing in RMD networks without Ethernet overhead

  13. Routed Multi-Destination Meshed Trunking

  14. Full Mesh Spectrum • One outbound carrier per site • One modulator and three demodulators at each site • LinkIP packet filtering - routes packets bound for its LAN and discards the rest

  15. Routed Multi-Destination STAR

  16. RMD STAR Spectrum • Hub and spoke network • Single outbound carrier from hub • SCPC return channels from remotes • Partial mesh with addition of demod at remote

  17. SCAN • Scanned Channel Assigned Networking • LinkSat’s Patented bandwidth manager (US Patent # 7,376,418) • CS-FDMA-CD - Carrier Sense-Frequency Division Multiple Access-Collision Detection • Every remote site in network has its own SCAN bandwidth manager • Uses real time spectral analysis of space segment channels to determine when and where to transmit and when to receive a demand assigned carrier • Utilizes same technique for transmit and receive traffic • Satellite effectively becomes an Ethernet switch in the sky

  18. SCAN Features • Gives each network node its own “eyes” to watch network spectral activity • Advantages of both DAMA and TDMA in a single bandwidth manager • Distributed intelligence: no hub or central network manager needed • Enables single hop remote-to-remote full mesh communications • Fast circuit set-up times – measured in milliseconds • Each site autonomously makes its own bandwidth acquisition decisions • No hub intervention or control channel required for remote bandwidth access – faster, more reliable • Can be provisioned as a complete network solution or as an overlay to existing networks • LinkIP provides modem interface and control

  19. SCAN Advantages • Supports all network architectures – Star, partial-mesh, full-mesh • Bandwidth-on-demand up to 155 mb/s (with use of external modems) • Bandwidth allocation is demand-driven by network users rather than using pre-assigned slots • Channelized bandwidth scheme allows for easy addition and subtraction of channels to optimize the balance between bandwidth cost and network congestion • Lower network hardware and software license costs vs. incumbent technology (TDMA and DAMA) for small to medium sized networks • Allows full satellite network automation • Ideal for bandwidth-on-demand applications

  20. SCAN Spectrum Analyzer • Monitors satellite spectrum in real time • Analyzer utilizes latest DSP FFT technology • Form factor of analyzer is PCI-e PCB • Performs on-board processing of spectral data for SCAN bandwidth manager • Detects spectral density, occupied bandwidth and carrier power • Processes 125 MHz of bandwidth data in a single sweep; can process 500 MHz in <5 milliseconds • Can be self contained in its own 1U chassis • Can be integrated into LinkXX router PCI-e slot • Integrated spectrum analyzer GUI

  21. SCAN Channel Map • SCAN spectrum analyzer can resolve both spectral density and occupied bandwidth • Allowable channels within a bandwidth segment are defined by network operator • Spectrum can be further sub-divided in separate layers with different channel schemes, allowing fine granularity • LinkIP determines carrier size needed based on incoming data ToS and satellite channels available
