Grade 11, 12 AHL Courses Why Active Healthy Lifestyle? • Encourage students to take ownership of their own activity and lifestyle choices • Encourage students to look beyond the school environment for physical activity opportunities • Encourage student to be able to assess risk and make responsible decisions

  2. What Determines an Earned Credit? Complete/Incomplete vs Percentage

ESS Course Requirements Core Component: 6 instructional modules Module A- Practicum • Accumulate and log at least 55hrs. of physical activity at a moderate to vigorous level. • Any physical activity you are paid for does not count (eg. Farm work, chores, job, etc.) • At least 5hrs. must be in another discipline • 55hrs=11hrs/month=25min./day • Completed by end of semester

  4. What intensity of activity counts? • Moderate- physical activities that cause breathing and heart rate to increase. You can hear yourself breathe but can still talk. • Vigorous- physical activities that cause breathing and heart rate to increase to level whereby it would be difficult to talk.

  5. How can I get my hours? School Based • Intramurals • School Teams (Practices/Game active time) • Activity offered during your modules Out of School Based • Any activity approved by school division and has safety checklist (moderate-vigorous) • Spontaneous activity must be a part of your plan

Evidence of Course Completion Portfolio- must be complete and handed in by end of course (Must be in a binder) • All module assignments completed • Physical activity logs completed • Physical activity safety checklists completed • Pre and post sign-off sheets completed • Conference log’s completed

  8. Teacher Student Conferences Purpose: to assist and monitor students’ progress • Must attend 3 scheduled conferences • Missed conferences must have a note excusing absence and be rescheduled • Appointments schedules will be posted • Must bring completed typed logs to appointments

  9. Course Schedule Grade 11- in class instruction on days 1, 3 and 5 of the school cycle. Day 2,4,6 no scheduled classes therefore time can be used to accumulate hours out of school Grade 12- in class instruction on days 2, 4 and 6 of the school cycle. Day 1,3,5 no scheduled classes therefore time can be used to accumulate hours out of school

  10. Attendance Policy For AHLS Students who accumulate 5 absences will be removed from the course as it is only offered every second day.
