  2. RPS Email Is called POP mail or actually POP3 meaning it sits on a remote server until you log in and pull it down off the server. Should be accessing it during day by Outlook or Outlook Express, Netscape, Incredimail, or Apple Mail. Can only be accessed outside of RPS by going to either ePals OR by using a service like mail2web.com to “pick up” your mail.

  3. RPS Email: questions • Who can get an RPS email address? Anyone who is an employee. • How do you get it? Need an Employee ID number, need to call Help Desk. • How do you find out a person’s RPS email address? Infonet Email Search • Do they get rid of your email as soon as you leave? Not usually!

  4. RPS Email: questions What things should I NOT be doing with that RPS email address?** chain letters correspondence NOT job-related correspondence risque, inappropriate communication that warrants privacy ** Refer to the RPS AUP Policy!

  13. Email Issues • Attachments • Generally, PDFs are the best choice for documents. • Be aware of SIZE** especially with ePals. • Be aware of platform issues. • Double check to be sure you SEND the attachment and that it’s the RIGHT one! • **For bigger files, consider: http://www.yousendit.com

  14. Email Issues • Sig Files • Must be created both in epals and in your email software. • Be sure it is correct, succinct, and generically appropriate.

  15. Email Issues • Emoticons/Acronyms • In general, use sparingly…. • But sometimes: :-) or :) or :'( or :-( or :( work. Likewise BTW and TIA are universal; RIFLOL are not.

  17. Email Etiquette • Take one last look before you hit “send.” • Clean up emails before forwarding them. • Don’t forward hoaxes or other chain mails.

  18. Email Etiquette • Make sure you have up-to-date antivirus software. • Put a subject on your emails. • Resize pictures before you send them.

  19. Email Etiquette • Warn people of LARGE attachments. • Make sure your computer’s CLOCK has correct time on it. • Avoid SHOUTING and acronyms.
