Part II: Format/Style cont. • Visual Delivery • Powerpoint • How you present yourself • Vocal Delivery • How you sound Be prepared to ask/answer questions
Bad PowerPoint • There is Good and Bad Power point • A sure sign of bad powerpoint presentations are sentences than seem to drag on forever and ever, and and ever. You do not want to go over 7 sentences per slide. Most people can read, and consequently do not like to be read to.
What to do • Use short simple phrases • Use normal case • 4-5 lines of text per slide
I cant read a darn thing • Matthew Barnaby is getting whipped • I wish I could read this • Beware of bad backgrounds
Bad Bullet Usage • Bullets are good for accentuating points • Only key points deserve to have their own bullets • Too many bullets crowd slides • They make it difficult to read the slide • Key points get lost in the mess • Too many bullet’s makes it seem like you are reading to the audience • Additional bullets force Powerpoint to cut font size.
Pick the right colors • Dark text should not be with dark backgrounds
Death to Clip Art • Horses make good glue. • This is still useless clip art
Still with the clip art! • I have a hard time reading this! • If there isn’t a need • Don’t use clip art
Small Text is useless as are exotic fonts • Stay away from small fonts • Also stay away from unique fonts • Title Should Be 44 pt • Subtitle 32 pt • Text 24
Transitions The Happy days effect
Remember • The goal is to add to your presentation • The audience should focus on you, not your slides • Don’t read to us!
