  2. KS4 Academic Mentoring Objective: to see our young people fulfilling their target grades and to tackle underachievement Academic mentoring is a form of relentless pursuit to address: • organisation • revision • meeting deadlines • motivation

How does Academic Mentoring work? • Some Year 10 students received mentoring in y9 and will continue this year where necessary • Aimed at students who are underperforming in several GCSE subjects • Some Year 11 students are receiving academic mentoring and received mentoring last year • Letters are sent out to parents – you will be informed • Mentoring will take place at a fixed time for 20 minutes each week with Mr R Harrold or SLT • Students will be withdrawn from lessons/tutor time • A mentoring form will be sent home with the student as a record and to communicate with parents • Students may be expected to attend Afternoon Study in the library when the mentor recommends this

  4. Subject Intervention • Departments will be addressing significant underachievement in their subject areas • Extra classes or booster and revision sessions will be available • Tackling Underperformance in boys

Year 11 Academic Year2012 - 2013 • Year 11 Retreat: 11 – 14 October 2012 • Two week Half term: Revision for Mocks • Mock Exams: 12 – 16 November 2012 • Mock Results Assembly: 5 December • Interim Report 1 RAG ratings to parents: 5 December 2012 • Student Progress Day 1: 14 December 2012 • Full Written Reports to parents: w/c 21 January 2012 • Parent Consultation Evening: Thursday, 24 January 2013 • Poetry Live: 6 February 2013 • Interim Report 2 & RAG to parents: 18 February 2013 • Parent’s and Students’ Revision Evening: 7 March 2013 • Exams commence: w/c 13 May 2013 • Half Term - Revision

  7. Controlled Assessment • Different degrees of control – high, medium, low • English – Examination conditions • Preparation is vital • Absence has a massive impact • Lesson time has to be used • Teaching and Learning time is affected • GCSE homework and study vital preparation
