Reform strategies 4 • Improve teacher and principal effectiveness based on performance • Ensure effective teachers and leaders in every classroom • Use data to inform instruction • Increase college and career readiness • Develop and implement the teaching and learning system • Turn around the lowest achieving schools Participating districts committed to implementing these strategies when they signed the Race to the Top memorandum of understanding (MOU).

What’s the project overview? 7 • A place to articulate your LEA’s priorities and to tell us how you’re using RTTT funding to support them • Build on your existing strategic planning document(s) • Do make sure any gaps between state and district goals are covered by your RTTT proposal • Costs of managing the overall program can be budgeted here (up to 2% of your total allocation)
Update on Project 2C.1 – Develop experienced and effective teachers as mentors • Originally, districts that wanted to participate in Project 2C.1 in year 2 were required to apply by July 29th • Due to low numbers, however, ESE is extending year 2 enrollment through the September deadline • If interested, please budget funds in year 2 and/or indicate through your narrative that you are participating in year 2
Update on Project 2C.1 - Continued • Live training will be delivered as 3 full days (5 hours, 10:00-3:00) • Districts will need to budget funds for substitutes. • Live trainings will take place in October at 3 regional sites and will include September 29 applicants. Regional sites will be determined by the number of mentors in an area. • In lieu of an August Kick off meeting, individual consultations will be provided to customize the program to best meet the district's needs. • This consultation will also provide support related to the design of an effective district induction and mentoring program. • July applicants can expect consultations to begin October 1 and consultations for September 29 applicants will occur during the school year.
We are offering two application deadlines • The RFP requirements are posted at http://finance1.doe.mass.edu/grants/grants12/rfp/doc/201_b.pdf • LEAs can choose one of two submission deadlines: either July 29 or September 30, 2011. • We will NOT be using the new online grants management system—we will use the legacy system • ESE review will occur during the month following each submission date • Some grants will receive preliminary approval before final approval 11
Review and Approval Timeline • LEAs will be able to charge expenses at the point of ESE approval (marked by ) • ~Sept. 1 for applications received prior to Sept. 1st • ~Oct. 1 for applications received prior to Oct. 1st • Funds will be released after USED approval (anticipate October/November)
