Quantitative Trait Loci (QTL) for Root Traits in Soybean [Glycine max (L.) (Merr.)]Dr. Abdelmajid Kassem, Fayetteville State University Education: Three grad students (Tony Washington, Khalid Ouertani, & Patricia Lage), and a high school student (Stephen Myles) contributed to this work. These students grew 3 soybean populations (n1=100, n2=92, and n3=94) of soybean in the FSU greenhouse and in the field (Harnett Co, NC), took extensive root traits phenotypic data, analyzed these data, and participated in writing abstracts and manuscripts for publication. This work will continue beyond summer and S. Myles will join the team during the next academic year (2008-2009). Outreach: These projects included mentoring Stephen Myles, a high school student in taking care of plants, taking root traits phenotypic data, analyzing data, and assisting in abstract and manuscript preparation.
